About This Blog
Hello there. This blog is an experiment for me. As most visual artists and designers I am not too brilliant with words. But I think the “blog-medium” is fantastic in its ability to record, organize and share creative thinking. Therefore I will be posting annotated images and patterns reflecting “mindscape impressions” hoping to initiate some interesting conversations. For further inquiries about my work please contact me at yury999@yahoo.com
In the meantime – here are a few “serious” words about my artistic work from my official bio. I shall come up with something better soon. :)
“…Yury Frolov experiments with wide range of new digital media techniques.
His interests include non-verbal communication through visual constructs and patterns that carry emotional charge and affect deep layers of the human psyche. He calls his compositions Mindscapes, TRANSmitters or Energy Ornaments, for they attempt to reveal underlying universal energy as it manifests itself through the human mind.
Yury was a 1991 recipient of the prestigious Krasner-Pollock Foundation Art Grant and a winner of How Magazine’s International Design Competition for 1997. In early 90s he participated in national and international group shows in Russia, Germany, France and US featuring young artists from former USSR. He also held a number of solo shows in Pittsburgh, PA, as well as Los Angeles and San Francisco, CA. His paintings, prints and 3-D objects are included in private collections in Europe and US.
Yury studied design and architecture at the Institute of Art and Industrial Design (aka Strogonovka) in Moscow. He received his Master’s degree in Design and Environmental Graphics in 1983.
Yury lives and works in San Francisco, California. He currently leads Studio Asterisk*, a boutique design firm specializing in user interface design and visual communications….”

I have seen this show for more than 6 times, because I really love it. It not just about Chinese Culture, it includes the conceptions of what is indeed “beauty”. In ancient Greek, I know there 4 requirements about art’s compositions.
1) The most beautiful is the sake of others
2)Compliance with sub-limits
3)Not arrogant
4)Not excessive
This show really interpret these four requirements. So I would like to share this with you.
